Make the season bright during Providence’s Three Nights of Lights, Thursday, December 1st through Saturday, December 3rd. This three-day festival will include citywide events, all incorporating the theme of light.

On Saturday, December 3rd, Santa’s Village opens at 4:30 p.m. and Santa will arrive by boat during the WaterFire lighting at 5:30 p.m. Each of the three nights of the WaterFire Holiday Celebration will feature Holiday ArtMart vendors and food trucks offering seasonal treats. A toy drive benefitting the families of Children’s Friend will be taking place each night. Additional programming is planned for each night.

The third season of Sparkling Lights at The Breakers will be the biggest yet! This year, the fun extends around the entire property for the first time. You’ll stroll along a half-mile-long path glittering with hundreds of thousands of holiday lights while friendly gnomes point the way and music fills the winter air. Walk through a dazzling 50-foot-long tunnel of light! See illuminated snowmen, reindeer and many more sparkling surprises. Peek into Santa’s Workshop inside the Children’s Cottage and be sure to get a family photo at the Van”deer”bilt  selfie station! The mansion facade will be lighted up and adorned with a tree of lights in ever-changing colors.

Six new fire pits will light the way and help visitors stay warm and festive. The back terrace will have warming stations and adult beverages including hot chocolate with liqueur, apple cider with bourbon, wine and beer. Enjoy holidays sweets and treats and get a s’mores kit to cook over the fire pit.

Irish American Erik Blake has brought his wife and his mother for Thanksgiving at the new home of his daughter and her boyfriend. His mother (affectionately referred to as “Momo”) is suffering from Alzheimer’s, and his other daughter Aimee has recently been the victim of a nasty breakup. The parents are disappointed that their daughters have left home to struggle in New York City, and worried that they are abandoning their values. The Humans tells the story of the quintessential family reunion: a group of people who love each other but still wrestle with basic human fears: old age, abandonment, poverty, and death.

The Humans is hailed by critics on Broadway and around the country. The Los Angeles Times said of the playwright Stephen Karam; “[Karam] captures contemporary American domestic life in such wincingly accurate detail that something at once eternal and urgently of the moment is achieved.” The Chicago Tribune said of its world premiere in 2014; “Stephen Karam’s kind, warm, beautifully observed and deeply moving new play…is a work filled with uncommon compassion for the kinds of people whom the theater often ignores.” The Humans was adapted into a film in 2021 starring Richard Jenkins, Amy Schumer, Jayne Houdyshell, Steven Yeun and Beanie Feldstein.

The magic is back this holiday season for a three-hour experience at the Blackstone Valley Polar Express!!! Join us for a 90-minute train ride to view the North Pole that’s filled with singing, games, a reading of the classic children’s story “The Polar Express”, and a visit from Santa! Small parade on opening night, Saturday, December 3rd!

The display is made up of 650 Christmas trees decorated by their sponsor families, 20 Victorian houses sponsored by local businesses, large light displays both on land and in the trees.  You can walk down The Night before Christmas Lane and look through the windows of the houses to see scenes from the story on display and push the button to hear the story.  There is an 18-foot-tall talking snowman to delight the children.  There are 4 large light Trees along with an 8-foot-high Wonderland sign. Be sure to check out our two new displays, Santa’s reindeers stable and Mrs. Claus kitchen. 

 Be sure to stop at the many photo sites where you can become a snowman or gingerbread man or holiday lady.

 During the festival nights for a small fee there are hayrides, children’s train rides, the carousal is operating. In the entertainment tent there is free entertainment provided by talented students and adults from local area.  The Food tent has hot dogs, hot chocolate, snacks and cookies for sale all at very reasonable prices. All except the Hay Ride are Cash only.

 In the Boat house there are visits with Santa and/or a 5 x 7 printed picture with Santa, if you choose.  Santa is Cash only.   

 On non-festival days the display will be lit each night from December 4th to January 1ft, 2023 until 9 for drive through or walking.

Loos Center for the Arts Brings Holiday Spirit to the Quiet Corner with

Ocean State Pops Orchestra’s 2022 Holiday Pops Concert

WOODSTOCK, CT (November 1, 2022) – Ocean State Pops Orchestra is returning to Loos Center for the Arts on December 3, 2022, presented by Performing Arts of Northeast Connecticut. This accomplished 60-piece orchestra will delight the audience with a high-energy performance that’s sure to inspire holiday cheer. The Woodstock Academy Hill Singers will open the festivities, rounding out a program filled with timeless carols and holiday warmth.

Residents of Eastern CT, RI, and Southern MA may be surprised to learn they don’t need to travel far for a world-class evening of musical holiday nostalgia. Located on The Woodstock Academy’s South Campus, Loos Center for the Arts features a state-of-the-art 1,000 seat theater that serves as the perfect venue for concerts and theatrical performances. Last year’s Holiday Pops Concert was a resounding success, with audience members praising the talented performers, high-quality sound system, and excellent view of the stage from every seat in the house.

As an added treat, the audience will enjoy an opening performance from The Woodstock Academy’s esteemed honors acapella group—the Hill Singers. Irish American Erik Blake has brought his wife and his mother for Thanksgiving at the new home of his daughter and her boyfriend. His mother (affectionately referred to as “Momo”) is suffering from Alzheimer’s, and his other daughter Aimee has recently been the victim of a nasty breakup. The parents are disappointed that their daughters have left home to struggle in New York City, and worried that they are abandoning their values. The Humans tells the story of the quintessential family reunion: a group of people who love each other but still wrestle with basic human fears: old age, abandonment, poverty, and death.

The Humans is hailed by critics on Broadway and around the country. The Los Angeles Times said of the playwright Stephen Karam; “[Karam] captures contemporary American domestic life in such wincingly accurate detail that something at once eternal and urgently of the moment is achieved.” The Chicago Tribune said of its world premiere in 2014; “Stephen Karam’s kind, warm, beautifully observed and deeply moving new play…is a work filled with uncommon compassion for the kinds of people whom the theater often ignores.” The Humans was adapted into a film in 2021 starring Richard Jenkins, Amy Schumer, Jayne Houdyshell, Steven Yeun and Beanie Feldstein.

The Coastal Queen’s Candy Cane Express Cruise is holiday fun for the kids! The boat ride will cruise about Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay to see the sites and scenery. Mrs. Claus will make a special appearance and read to the kids while hot chocolate is served.

Small parade on opening night, Saturday, December 3rd!

The display is made up of 650 Christmas trees decorated by their sponsor families, 20 Victorian houses sponsored by local businesses, large light displays both on land and in the trees.  You can walk down The Night before Christmas Lane and look through the windows of the houses to see scenes from the story on display and push the button to hear the story.  There is an 18-foot-tall talking snowman to delight the children.  There are 4 large light Trees along with an 8-foot-high Wonderland sign. Be sure to check out our two new displays, Santa’s reindeers stable and Mrs. Claus kitchen. 

 Be sure to stop at the many photo sites where you can become a snowman or gingerbread man or holiday lady.

 During the festival nights for a small fee there are hayrides, children’s train rides, the carousal is operating. In the entertainment tent there is free entertainment provided by talented students and adults from local area.  The Food tent has hot dogs, hot chocolate, snacks and cookies for sale all at very reasonable prices. All except the Hay Ride are Cash only.

 In the Boat house there are visits with Santa and/or a 5 x 7 printed picture with Santa, if you choose.  Santa is Cash only.   

 On non-festival days the display will be lit each night from December 4th to January 1ft, 2023 until 9 for drive through or walking.

This program is presented in partnership between The United Theatre and the Chorus of Westerly. In essence, Speakeasy Choir is a one night choir open to anyone. Everyone who attends will automatically become a member of a singing ensemble for the night and will learn a song with harmonies. At the end of the night, you will all perform with The United Theatre House Band (made up of instructors from our RI Phil Music School at The United).

Wilbury Theatre Group presents the Rhode Island premiere of Tony-Award® winner for Best Play (2016) The Humans by Stephen Karam, directed by Josh Short. Running November 17th – December 11th, the production features Jim O’Brien, Jeanine Kane, Rachel Dulude, Jessie March, Dave Rabinow, & Carol Varden. Irish American Erik Blake has brought his wife and his mother for Thanksgiving at the new home of his daughter and her boyfriend. His mother (affectionately referred to as “Momo”) is suffering from Alzheimer’s, and his other daughter Aimee has recently been the victim of a nasty breakup. The parents are disappointed that their daughters have left home to struggle in New York City, and worried that they are abandoning their values. The Humans tells the story of the quintessential family reunion: a group of people who love each other but still wrestle with basic human fears: old age, abandonment, poverty, and death.

The Humans is hailed by critics on Broadway and around the country. The Los Angeles Times said of the playwright Stephen Karam; “[Karam] captures contemporary American domestic life in such wincingly accurate detail that something at once eternal and urgently of the moment is achieved.” The Chicago Tribune said of its world premiere in 2014; “Stephen Karam’s kind, warm, beautifully observed and deeply moving new play…is a work filled with uncommon compassion for the kinds of people whom the theater often ignores.” The Humans was adapted into a film in 2021 starring Richard Jenkins, Amy Schumer, Jayne Houdyshell, Steven Yeun and Beanie Feldstein.

Starting at 8:00am, Applebee’s will be hosting Breakfast With Santa…pancakes, music, Santa, caroling, prizes and MORE! Breakfast is $4.00 per person (CASH ONLY) and the rest of the day is FREE! Don’t forget to bring along a new, unwrapped toy to donate to The Toys for Tots program!

After breakfast, Santa will be making his way down Main Street in the Commons by fire truck! Kids of all ages will enjoy checking out the fire engine after Santa arrives.
