Feeling overwhelmed seems to have become more commonplace than ever these days.
I remember sitting at the lunch table of a previous job and listening to my colleagues discussing the pros and cons of the anti-anxiety medications they were all on. In stunned silence I realised how far-reaching stress was and how important it was for us to spend more time on self-care because it’s caught up with us all at one time or another.
Thankfully, there’s lots of SA businesses to help us manage the daily stress we can feel. Here’s our top six places to help you recharge and find balance.
The massage
1. Temple Day Spa
It’s hard to go past a massage when you need to feel relaxed and restored. Temple Day Spa is an absolute fave of ours when we need to show ourselves some love. If you’ve only got an hour to spare, they’ll have you in and out before you can say bliss. We do, however, recommend one of their spa packages which range from 2 to 3 hours because, let’s be honest, you’re worth the me-time!
The movement
2. Roaming Zen
It’s important to keep active to ensure the overall health of your body and mind. Roaming Zen, located on Magill Rd, St Morris have weekly classes in Barre, Pilates, Yoga, TRX and their very own b.class which you can do in studio or online. Basically, they’ve given us so many options that there can’t be any excuses not to prioritise ourselves and you can trial different ways to move that feel right for you.

The retreat
3. Barossa Wellness Retreat
If you’ve been meaning to go on a wellness retreat for a while but haven’t yet, this is something you should do for yourself sooner rather than later. The Barossa Wellness Retreats offer day programs if you want to dip your toe in to see what they can offer your wellbeing before you commit to a full weekend. The extended retreats, however, are a complete immersion in nature, gentle movement and local, nutritious foods that will see your stress feel like a distance memory.
The connection
4. Pickle in the Middle
In our office, we’re so lucky to feel like family and there’s nothing quite like the calm we feel after workshopping any issues with our nearest and dearest.
You’ll often find us at Pickle in the Middle — giving each other pep talks or simply decompressing together over their soul food because their plant-based, sustainable menu couples with conversation like a match made in therapy heaven.
The smile
5. Halo Movement
Try being stressed whilst you’re laughing so hard you can barely breathe! Halo Movement is a fusion studio with classes in yoga, pilates, dance, mindfulness and mediation, but it’s their aerial yoga that has us hooked on this place… literally.
You’ll certainly see the world in a different way when you shift your perspective upside down during this unique experience. Just don’t be surprised if you feel a lightness in your body and mind when you leave.
The exercise
6. Walking trails around SA
Exercise is one of the best ways we know to relieve stress and what more appealing way than walking one of the many amazing walking trails we have here in SA. There’s so many to choose from but a personal favourite is the Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty House hike. The full experience is not for the faint-hearted, but if you’re just getting yourself out there, there are lots of stops along the way to enjoy the peace and quiet of the Adelaide Hills.
We all know how much better we feel when we’ve given ourselves some time to relieve the stress of our every day lives, yet somehow we often don’t make this a priority. Taking some time just for you is a total game changer, so what are you waiting for?
