Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction, formerly known as Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Quarantine, is a brand new entry in the Rainbow Six series. However, instead of being a PvP game, Extraction is a tactical co-op PvE experience. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft, players assume the role as a member of the REACT Team and assemble a one to three-player squad to confront mysterious alien creatures.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction is available on virtually every platform including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Google Stadia, Amazon Luna, PC and GeForce NOW. With cross-play and cross-save you can easily start playing on one platform and continue exactly where you left off on another!

Fight an ever evolving threat
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction takes place across 12 stages ranging from Liberty Island in New York to an astro-sciences research station in Alaska. The game takes place several years after the 2018 outbreak in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. A Chimera Parasite broke containment and a handful of operators from Rainbow Six Siege seemingly contained the initial outbreak.
However, That is until the parasite subsequently spread to other areas in the United States, notably New York City, San Francisco, New Mexico and Alaska. Over a few years, the Parasite adapted to Earth and evolved into what are now known as the Archaeans.
As a result, the Rainbow Exogenous Analysis & Containment Team (REACT) was formed and set up containment zones around infected areas. As the Archaeans grew stronger, REACT was sent to enter these zones to gather any information they could in order to find a way to stop them.
Solid PvE gameplay
Unlike Rainbow Six Siege’s player versus player gameplay, Rainbow Six Extraction offers up a player versus enemy experience. There are a total of 18 Rainbow Six operators to be fully unlocked, each equipped with specialized REACT gear, weapons, gadgets and abilities to learn and master. Each of the 18 operators have been thrown into a radically different scenario, in a rapidly changing world, against an entirely new threat.
As a result, each of the operator’s weapons, gadgets and technology had to be reimagined. Now, the Operator advancement systems, the Missing in Action (MIA) mechanic, the ways of managing your roster and the squad-based tactical incursion/extraction game loops are all core gameplay components.
In each map you are sent in with three main objectives, ranging from nest tracking to rescuing one of your operators that you lost on a previous run. Additionally, there are several sub objectives. Both objectives and sub objectives change each time you play a map. After completing each objective, you must choose to either extract and collect your rewards or push deeper and face tougher enemies for even greater rewards.
It’s all about teamwork
While Rainbow Six Extraction can be played solo, you’ll get the most enjoyment out of it playing with up to two other friends. And, since the game supports cross-play you can play with friends across all platforms. To do so, you simply add your friends via Ubisoft Connect and you’ll be able to not only play together but party chat as well!
As I mentioned previously, in order to be successful in Rainbow Six Extraction you and your teammates have to work together. In the game, once you take damage it’s permanent, there is no healing. Instead, you can gain temporary health boosts that slowly deteriorate over time. It’s this, along with the increase of enemies that gives players a challenge.
This required teamwork to be successful is both a positive and negative aspect of the game. Playing with random people often meant that my two other teammates would often go and do their own thing. As a result, this meant having to abandon the mission and extraction. Yes you can play solo but it is extremely difficult as you move through the game to complete all three objectives for each map.
On the flipside, playing Rainbow Six Extraction with family and friends is extremely satisfying and fun. Staying in constant communication and working through each of the objectives regardless of being successful or not, was some of the most fun I’ve had in a game in recent memory.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction offers a great co-operative multiplayer experience
Ultimately, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction offers a great co-operative multiplayer experience that you can play with friends across virtually every platform. Overall, there are a great variety of Rainbow Six operators to play as—18 total to unlock and play as. And, a total of 12 maps to play on, each offering varying environments.
Playing with friends, I had nothing but fun and the hours flew by. However, playing with random people on the internet was quite the opposite experience. And while playing solo is fun and challenging, it’s easy to see that Rainbow Six Extraction was designed and is best enjoyed playing with friends.
If you’re looking for a change from the standard PvP multiplayer games and have a group of friends to play with, I highly recommend Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction.
